They are requesting 58 sites from the Iraqis, permanent ones.

And the Iraqis can tell us to fuck off and do what they want with them huh?
Actually I was IN Germany at the beginning of the draw down and they were happy in a great many communities that we were leaving. We started fights in their bars, we got their daughters pregnant, we wrecked lots of country side during field training exercises. Not everyone was glad to see us go, but there weren't a whole lot of shed tears.Do you think that the Iraqis do not want the influx of cash that American bases will bring? What a boost to the Iraqi economy. Do you think that Japan, Korea, Germany, England, and the other countries where America has bases want Americans to close the bases and leave?
No other country is going to mess with the host country as long as the Americans have bases.

those 50 bases are just going to be romantic hideaway spots.
We are just boosting Iraq's tourism industry.
Please Lord, don't give Rush "Viagra" Limbaugh and the rightwing any ideas about a sexual tourism industry in Iraq. The hundreds of thousands of destitute widows and orphaned girls Bush created are ripe for exploitation.
Well, while in Germany Bush has assured the world that this report is "erroneous". I wonder if that's the nice way of saying "BS"?
LOL.Well, if Bush said it than it must be true!
My bet is that they are seeking 57 permanent bases and one "military support structure."
He actually stated that the US is seeking "no permanent bases". I assume that is other than our uber-large super-Embassy's support base.
Oh, I'll change my guess then.
My new bet is that they are seeking 1,000 year leases with no termination provisions and an option to extend for another 1,000 years at the election of the United States.
Saghir said, "It is possible that in December we will send a letter the UN informing them that Iraq no longer needs foreign forces to control its internal security. As for external defense, we are still not ready."
