A "serious violation" of commands and standard procedures: What IDF report says on aid strike
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its strike which killed seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid workers was carried out in "serious violation of the commands" and procedures, and "should not have happened."

In a statement released Friday, the IDF detailed how the "grave incident" happened.

The IDF said its forces "identified a gunmen on one of the aid trucks, following which they identified an additional gunmen."

"After the vehicles left the warehouse where the aid had been unloaded, one of the commanders mistakenly assumed that the gunmen were located inside the accompanying vehicles and that these were Hamas terrorists," the report said. "The forces did not identify the vehicles in question as being associated with WCK."

The IDF said its forces then targeted the three WCK vehicles based on "the misclassification of the event and misidentification of the vehicles as having Hamas operatives inside them."

"The strike on the aid vehicles is a grave mistake stemming from a serious failure due to a mistaken identification, errors in decision-making, and an attack contrary to the Standard Operating Procedures," the IDF said.

In another update, the IDF dismissed the officers in command:

Here's who the IDF dismissed and punished over the deadly World Central Kitchen aid strikes
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) dismissed two senior officers and reprimanded others over the deadly strikes on a World Central Kitchen (WCK) convoy that killed seven aid workers in Gaza this week.

The IDF on Friday published a report into the attack, saying the strikes violated its own procedures and should not have happened.

Two senior officers were dismissed: The brigade fire support commander, an officer with the rank of major, and the brigade chief of staff, an officer with the rank of colonel.

Humans fuck up a lot--we're obviously one of evolution's most grave mistakes.

I think that dogs are its best work up until this point,
and most of them only have to put up with this fucked up universe for twelve or fifteen years.

That was a missile hit like a Hellfire or the like....

...Whether it was fired from a plane, helicopter, or drone, the launch vehicle would have been tracking the target on optical sensors not by eyeball.

From another report: https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/03/middleeast/world-central-kitchen-strike-analysis-intl/index.html
Explosive weapons expert Chris Cobb-Smith told CNN on Tuesday that the strikes appeared to have been carried out by an Israeli drone.

Cobb-Smith, a former British Army artillery officer and munitions expert, said the heavy damage to the three vehicles was consistent with the use of “highly accurate drone fired missiles,” adding it was “hard to believe” the tragic incident was an accident.

It appears you are likely correct about it being a kinetic Hellfire missile.

Yeh there was a serious fuck up and those responsible have been dealt with. Can you ever imagine the likes of Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria or Iran doing likewise, can you fuck? Never gonna happen!!

Humans get a lot of things right...but when we fuck up, we do it in a grand way.

From the link: "Israel has fired two military commanders and reprimanded a third over a drone strike in Gaza that killed seven World Central Kitchen workers on Monday, saying they had mishandled critical information and violated the army's rules of engagement."

The IDF is under a microscope now and needs to get it right. I support Israel in killing terrorists and destroying Hamas, but they need to work in their optics.

Very tragic. At least IDF investigated and accepted responsibility. I have yet to see Hamas admit to plotting a sneak attack on unarmed teenagers at a music festival, or incompetently shooting their own rockets into Gazan hospitals.

Agreed. Also, notice how the pro-Palestinian protestors always forget that part too. They scream for the IDF to stop the attacks, but not Hamas. They don't push for Hamas to stop or give up anything. Ergo, they recognize Hamas as legitimate government.

The Gazans need to make a choice other than Hamas. Given what happened on October 7, Israel should not have to tolerate a terrorist organization like Hamas being the recognized ruling authority in Gaza.

Agreed. They need to seek peace and stop supporting terrorist attacks against Israel, both directly and indirectly.

By doing so, then they could legitimately sue for human rights.

The Irish tacitly supported terrorism with fund raisers in in the US. I remember attending a dance in the Irish part of Philly in 1979 what was rumored to be an IRA fundraiser. I was more interested in getting laid, so I didn't pay much attention at the time.

It's a tough argument to complain about abuses by one's opposition after committing terrorist attacks against them. The Brits made mistakes just like the IDF has done. Both faced the same problem.

There's a lot of innocents in Gaza who didn't know about, or support the Oct. 7 sneak attack on Israeli civilians, but the presence of innocent people has never been a reason that a sovereign state cannot protect itself from bloodthirsty terrorists. But there is a moral obligation for IDF to take every reasonable precaution to spare innocent life.

According to the Palestinians. No doubt the Irish claimed they didn't know anything about the IRA either. 300 miles of tunnels in a 25 mile by 7 mile wide strip of land is difficult to hide. I think everyone know who and where Hamas was located. By not reporting it, they become part of the problem.

Much is made about Palestinian "children", but as our troops in Iraq found out, children are often weaponized by Islamic Jihadists.

Sorry if this sounds cruel, but I favor the maxim "You are either part of the solution or part of the problem" and apply it to every Palestinian that can walk and talk in Gaza.

Agreed about the right of self-defense and taking precautions to minimize loss of life, even against terrorists who use their own people as meat shields.
