3.9 million acres of Alaskan land have been opened in a bid to counter rising petroleum prices.
The Bureau of Land Management says the land requires no further approvals and will be available for lease this fall.
The land could yield as much as 3.7 billion barrels of oil, and could start producing by 2010.
