Twin Towers' terror group al-Qaeda would welcome a pre-election terror attack on the U.S. as a way to usher in a McCain presidency, a website revealed.

A message was posted on the al-Hesbah Web site said if al-Qaeda wants to exhaust the United States militarily and economically, 'impetuous' Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain is the better choice because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
'This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier,' the message said.

'Then, al-Qaeda will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush.'

SITE Intelligence Group, based in Bethesda, Maryland, monitors the Web site and translated the message.

'If al-Qaeda carries out a big operation against American interests,' the message said, 'this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it.'

Mark Salter, a senior McCain adviser, said he had heard about the Web site chatter but had no immediate comment.

The message is credited to a frequent and apparently respected contributor named Muhammad Haafid. However, Haafid is not believed to have a direct affiliation with al-Qaeda plans or knowledge of its operations, according to SITE.

SITE senior analyst Adam Raisman said this message caught SITE's attention because there has been little other chatter on the forums about the U.S. election.

SITE was struck by the message's detailed analysis - and apparent jubilation - about American financial woes.

'What we try to do is get the pulse of the jihadist community,' Raisman said. 'And it's about the financial crisis.'

Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden issued a videotape just four days before the 2004 U.S. presidential election directly addressing the American people

I'm not one to look at this sort of stuff and to have it hold any sway over the way I vote, but since McCain has highlighted the Hezbollah "endorsement" of Obama he's kind of boxed himself in here.

that's exactly the first thing i thought of, mccain played that for all it was worth. and so now we have to ask - what would have been the mccain reaction if this had been said about obama and reported this morning?

what would sarah palin be saying on the campaign trail today?

If the author from that site was serious about supporting McCain because they wanted to "exhaust the US militarily" then why not after the US exhausted itself more with the surge did they not welcome that and fight back against that?

Here's a better theory, whoever wrote that KNOWS full well that it would translate into support for Obama.

Remember that one of the 2 founding reasons behind why Osama (and Al-Qaida is against America was US troops on holy Saudi soil (from the first Gulf war). They want them out.

Hilarious.

Can someone come up with some sort of guidelines for when we take these guys at their word and when we decide their using reverse psychology?

Hamas "endorses" Obama - Take them at their word.

Bin Laden says Iraq is the central front on the war on terror - Take him at his word.

Al Qaeda "endorses" John Kerry - Take them at their word.

Al Qaeda "endorses" John McCain - Reverse psychology.

Maybe John McCain has some helpful pointers on this:

“It is just a fact that apparently the North American spokesperson is endorsing Senator Obama. People can make their own judgment from that,” McCain said at a media availability today.

Thanks for clearing that up, John!

Here's an answer, they learned from their past mistake that supporting Kerry didn't help them beat Bush.

Do you REALLY think that they are more afraid of Obama than Kerry or McCain?

In short, I think it is in Al Qaeda's interest for us to remain in Iraq indefinitely and to refuse to attack their safe havens in Pakistan, two policies that McCain supports and Obama does not.

Fear has nothing to do with it.

It could be but let's face it there are still US troops in useless Germany and Japan, we are hardly pressed with no one left because they are in Iraq.

Even if you were right, it is insane to fuck with Pakistan, Al-Qaeda haven or not, they are nuclear, 8 times the population of Iraq and their government is at least an ally, not the best ally but probably as best as you could ask for the nation.
Obama and Biden are freaking scary with their talk of going into nuclear unstable Pakistan.

1) Obama and Biden aren't talking about going into nuclear unstable Pakistan to fight with the Pakistani government. They're talking about attacking Al Qaeda in Waziristan where the central government has no control and about working with the government to deal with the problem.

2) Whether there are still US troops in Germany or Japan is irrelevant. It isn't as though there is a group of German or Japanese terrorists that use the presence of American troops in their respective countries as a rallying cry to bring fighters to the cause. The point is that having our troops in Iraq is a rallying cry and recruiting too for Al Qaeda. You have posted several times about getting troops out of Saudi Arabia for this very reason. Moving them to Iraq doesn't do any good on that front.

Yes I realize that. But they will see it as going over their border and will be just as pissed, I'm sure you know that. If you don't then you need have no doubt as their central government in Islamabad has given repeated warnings:

”“We have said before that we will not allow anyone to infringe our sovereignty,” Azeem said."
http://www.nowpublic.com/pakistan_slams_ignorant_obama_attack_warning_1

If troops are ever caught crossing their border, they will be shouting in the street with machetes and on the warpath, possibly even toppling the government, Obama or whoeever will not be able to reason with them.

YET if we were not in Iraq they had and did use the same recruiting methods over US troops in Saudi Arabia.

And my comment over Japan and Germany was because I thought you were using the ol' lefty line about Iraq drawing away resources from Afghanistan.

1) The merits of candidate's Pakistan policies is a separate issue. All I'm talking about is the fact that if you are a member of Al Qaeda sitting in Waziristan you are much more comfortable knowing McCain won't try to take you out than you are with Obama's commitment to killing you.

2) I see your point, but again, where one candidate wants to draw down in Iraq and withdrawal and another is committed to an indefinite occupation, the latter is better from Al Qaeda's perspective.
