Wow, "nearly 16 years under mounting pressure from her colleagues"... bad writing. It sounds like she had 16 years of mounting pressure.

Also the past tense of the verb 'to lead' is led. As well as the past participle.

Did you ever see the Simpsons episode where Ralph was the candidate for both the Republican and the Democratic Parties?
 
Massachusettes Dems need some competition. Maybe the Greens, Progressive, or some other more left wing party to balance the Dems right wing tendencies.
