Military influx overwhelms counties
DEFENSE DEPT. PUPIL COUNT OFF BY 70,000

WASHINGTON --
When the Defense Department announced its military base realignment in 2005, it undercounted -- by more than 70,000 -- the number of school-age children of military personnel who will need to attend new schools.

School superintendents near those bases say that gaffe will cost their districts more than $2 billion in additional school construction.

Of course this surfaced after our Republican gov lost his bid for re-election...
 
I think it is unnecessary to close domestic bases for the present. We should be focused on closing most overseas bases, particularly in Europe. We only need a few Pacific bases like in S. Korea and we probably don't need any Latin American bases either. Our focus is in the Middle East right now. Most of the rest represent an old war.
