Booze in Canada

God Bless America
In British Columbia all alcohol (including beer and wine) has to be purchased from government-licensed liquor stores. Now keep in mind that the US and Canadian dollars are on par with each other when I tell you that even a six-pack of piss beer (i.e. Molson) was around $14. I couldn't believe my eyes. I ended up getting two 6-packs of Newcastle, for $14.95 each. I felt violated. How can anyone afford to be an alcoholic in Canada?

Thankfully, I'm back in Washington, where a decent 12-pack can be had for $12.

God bless America!

Mississippi used to have state controlled liquor. I think the entire process is absurd. Alcohol should only be taxed enough to make up for the services the government has to provide to make up for the accidents it causes. It shouldn't be used as a real source of revenue.

Sin taxes are always popular. Anyone who fights them is seen as fighting FOR drunken debauchery.

Personally, I think we need more drunken debauchery, but thats just me.
