Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that Canada's old relationship with the United States, "based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation, is over".

Speaking to reporters in Ottawa after a cabinet meeting, Carney said Canadians must "fundamentally reimagine our economy" in the face of US President Donald Trump's tariffs.

He said Canada would respond with retaliatory tariffs that will have "maximum impact" on the US.

Trump announced on Wednesday he would target imported vehicles and vehicle parts with a 25% tax, stating: "This is permanent."

IMO Trump has no idea how much damage this is going to do to the US Auto industry let alone the Lumber , Oil , gas, industries, it is going to effect the AMERICAN consumers really hard.
It is the Consumer that pays these tariffs NOT the exporting country's.
We will have to wait a week or so and see how much MORE Trumps tariffs start driving up costs of most everything we buy .
It is going to be one hell of a shit show.
I wonder if Trump is TRYING to drive us into a recession / depression.

Trump doesn't care about anything except increasing his own wealth. Same for the Oligarchs. Their actions are all about moving money from the pockets of government workers into their own pockets. American taxpayers will suffer from decreased services for no gain in savings. Over the long term, our nation as a whole will suffer from less educated and less healthy Americans.

It only took two months for MAGA morons to turn our best ally into an enemy. My cousin in Ottawa says there's never been this kind of hostility to the United States in Canada, and she is purposefully putting off any trips to the U.S.
