WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In what likely is the last big showdown between President George W. Bush and congressional Democrats over the popular Medicare health care program, the U.S. Congress on Tuesday voted to override his veto of a bill to keep doctors' payments from being slashed.

By enacting the measure over Bush's objections, Congress rescinded an 11 percent reduction in government payments to doctors treating elderly Medicare patients.

Just hours after Bush vetoed the legislation, the Senate voted 70-26 to overturn him, following the House of Representatives, which voted 383-41 to override. The bill now becomes law.

There was an article here in our paper about the ONLY Neurosugeon in the southern part of the state that was going to close up shop and move because the government had not paid him in 4 months.

No you just weren't going to get every Republican to support slashing old peoples medical coverage in an election year. They would not have overturned the veto in a non election year

And at the end of this election Bush will no longer have any control.

His power to do anything and have enough republicans walking in lock step is over.

He is leaving a hell of a mess but at least his ability to hurt this country is falling fast.

Talk about depressing, buash still has about a 28% approval rating. I had hooped we had fewer insane people than that in America. And that does not include the Ronbots either.
