Acres of corn planted is the highest since 1930 as reported today. The price plummeted, not after the harvest but on the report of the record plant.

Over production drives prices down. 'Specially in food. Thats why farm subsidies exist - to prevent over production and a price spiral toward the bottom, creating a food shortage as farmers went out of business.
