Ever since Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana assumed office on Wednesday, a question has been on Democrats’ minds: Could the elevation of Mr. Johnson, who worked in league with former President Donald J. Trump in trying to undermine the 2020 election results, allow him to succeed in 2024 where he failed the last time?

The speakership, which is second in line to the presidency, comes with broad powers over the functioning of the House.

It is quite possible. We have been worrying about if a man with values like Trump but is smart came along, how much more peril would the US be in. Now we will find out.

Lemme see. The Republiclowns tried to undermine the 2020 election by falsifying electoral documents, pressured state SoS to flip votes and caused a Capitol insurrection.
So methinks it's a good bet they may undermine the 2024 election.
The democrats have won the popular vote in 7 out of the last 8 presidential elections.
The country is clearly Center-Left.
