Giants believe Steelers used deflated footballs
The New York Giants alerted NFL officials to footballs that they believe were deflated and used by the Pittsburgh Steelers during Week 13’s matchup,*Fox Sports*NFL Insider Jay Glazer reported Sunday.
Glazer said the Giants, who lost to the Steelers 24-14, tested two footballs on the sidelines that the team claims were under league standards for pounds per square inch. The balls were sent to the league office.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy*released the following statement in response to the report:
"The officiating game ball procedures were followed and there were no chain of command issues. All footballs were in compliance and no formal complaint was filed by the Giants with our office."
Glazer quickly tweeted out that the NFL was "correct in saying no formal complaint was filed," but added that it was confirmed by the Giants that the balls were tested and that the NFL was informed.
