DOGE Plans to Rebuild SSA Code Base in Months, Risking Benefits and System Collapse

Social Security systems contain tens of millions of lines of code written in COBOL, an archaic programming language. Safely rewriting that code would take years—DOGE wants it done in months.

What could possibly go wrong?

Other then benefits not going out to 65 million seniors because DOGE didn't properly vet their code.

Musk can't even get X to stay online because they are making silly mistakes with coding.

We will find out in the next 6 months if anyone doesn't get their monthly payment.

Anyone that knows anything about coding knows that you can't port to a new language without extensive testing to confirm it works and even then many problems won't show up until the program goes live because it is impossible to test for all possibilities.

Okay... I hope they're testing goes well... And I hope they prove you wrong... No one wants anyone to go without a check That they deserve...

There aren't any 150 year olds drawing benefits. Maybe you should leave your delusions behind and join the real world.

If a birth date is missing in the database it defaults to 0 which would result in the person appearing to be 150 years old.

The problem with writing any code is the people writing the code can't foresee all possible problems.

A software tester walks into a bar.

A real customer walks into the bar and asks where the bathroom is.
