As long as Edwards continues to meet the 15% threshold he is still relevant if only to encourage his backers to throw their weight behind one of the other candidates at the convention. You have to win a majority of the delegates, not a plurality, to secure the nomination. If he manages to pick off enough support, neither Obama nor Clinton will have a majority come convention time, making Edwards a key player in the process.
