Gore's Home Still Guzzling Energy

Tuesday, June 17, 2008 10:48 PM

In the year since Al Gore took steps to make his home more energy-efficient, the former vice president’s home energy use surged more than 10 percent, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.

In the past year, Gore’s home burned through 213,210 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power 232 average American households for a month.

In February 2007, "An Inconvenient Truth," a film based on a climate change speech developed by Gore, won an Academy Award for best documentary feature. The next day, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research uncovered that Gore’s Nashville home guzzled 20 times more electricity than the average American household.

After the Tennessee Center for Policy Research exposed Gore’s massive home energy use, the former Vice President scurried to make his home more energy-efficient. Despite adding solar panels, installing a geothermal system, replacing existing light bulbs with more efficient models, and overhauling the home’s windows and ductwork, Gore now consumes more electricity than before the “green” overhaul.

Since taking steps to make his home more environmentally-friendly last June, Gore devours an average of 17,768 kWh per month –1,638 kWh more energy per month than before the renovations – at a cost of $16,533. By comparison, the average American household consumes 11,040 kWh in an entire year, according to the Energy Information Administration.

In the wake of becoming the most well-known global warming alarmist, Gore won an Oscar, a Grammy and the Nobel Peace Prize. In addition, Gore saw his personal wealth increase by an estimated $100 million thanks largely to speaking fees and investments related to global warming hysteria.

Hypocrite!

Pop quiz hot shot: What is Gore's per square foot consumption and how does it compare with the per square foot consumption of other homeowners in Tennessee?

Man, the right's obsession with Gore's "hypocrisy" just won't die.

Nice work, Little A. This is truly vital.

The reality is that a smaller number of people are using far more energy than necessary.

Oh, thanks for that insight. By the way, are you retarded?
Are you?

If I use three times the gasoline to push a huge vehicle down the road, it doesn't make it better because I am using less per square foot of vehicle. That is inane. Is the usage necessary? Or am I creating more emissions than necessary just to maintain myself in comfort and to show off?

LMAO... you really want the answer to that? Take a moment and think about the numbers. If his home uses 17k kilowatts a month and the average home uses 11k per year, then his home consumes about the same per year as 18 homes. His 10,000 sq ft mansion would have to be 18 times the size of the average home to equate. Which would be about 555 sq ft. I don't have the actual numbers, but I doubt the average home is that small.

So what, the righties are taking a socialist attitude on Gore house being too big, but no compalints on Bush or Gates homes ? I guess since Gore talks about global warming and such he should move into a 1,000 sq ft energy efficient home ?

Shorter Superfreak: I have no idea what the fuck I am talking but I'll post some bullshit anyway.

1) I could care less how big his home is. But yes, if he were so concerned for the environment he certainly could provide a better example of conservation. Is it required? Of course not. But it is a tad hypocritcal.

2) I do applaud the fact that he made the effort to make his home as "green" as Bush's home.

Translation:

"Well fuck me, I asked for something and someone actually provided it and now I look like a complete retard. Time to spin."

You didn't provide what you think you provided.

First, your average is erroneous in the first place since the average includes mobile homes and apartments. Is the former Vice President supposed to live in a studio or mobile home in order to speak freely about global warming?

Second, your average is for the entire country. Gore lives in Tennessee. Tennessee is in the South, which also happens to be the region with the highest energy consumption.

Until you provide some actual data on the energy consumption per square foot for homeowners in Tennessee you are wildly off the mark.

Got it, hot shot?

silly boys! ;)

gore's electric is high because he converted from natural gas heat to geothermal heat unit this past fall, where final construction of new energy efficient windows were also installed among other carbon footprint reducing measures....

since january o8 Gore's TOTAL carbon footprint is running 40% less than last year with his new geothermal/electric heat pump.....using NO natural gas now to heat his home...

just read this a week ago.... i will look for a link....think it was factcheck.org but it could have been a press release correcting the rumor of his electric useage being up or high still....
