Washington, D.C. - Mike Gravel, a former Alaskan Senator and Democratic candidate for president, has joined the Libertarian Party.

"I'm joining the Libertarian Party because it is a party that combines a commitment to freedom and peace that can't be found in the two major parties that control the government and politics of America," says Gravel. "My libertarian views, as well as my strong stance against war, the military industrial complex and American imperialism, seem not to be tolerated by Democratic Party elites who are out of touch with the average American; elites that reject the empowerment of American citizens I offered to the Democratic Party at the beginning of this presidential campaign with the National Initiative for Democracy."

You know how Gravel became senator? One day in 1956 he was at a gas station in Virginia, and broke, and he asked the guy next to him if he knew anyone who could give him a job. Turns our the man did, the real estate guy who had offices in Nevada or Alaska, and Gravel chose Alaska because he didn't like hot whether.

I really like Mike Gravel and think most of his fellow Democrats treated him very poorly in this election. I wouldn't mind getting his advice on a few subjects before he flies the coop.

But he is desperate as a politician, and the Libertarian Party is desperate as a political organization. Both should probably disband as it relates to trying to find electoral successes and focus on other pursuits.

Wasn't he the dude with the weird videos?

Very coolski. I wonder if he'll be the Presidential Nominee for the LP now....

Good old Mike, a very nice guy!
It is probably where he belonged, anyway. His ideas are too liberal for some of the Dems, even.:cof1:

Gotta be a career move. A big fish in a little pond kind of deal. He's gotta be the only person in the LP who believes in single payer universal healthcare, a carbon tax on CO2 to combat global warming, and expanding funding for public education.

Yeah I could think of no better career move than joining the Libertarian Party.

I saw him on that HBO Bill Maher show and he sounded like a total socialist to me. Doesn't seem like a good fit in the LP lol.
