Gun Control really does work!

"In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents were rounded up and exterminated.

"In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians were rounded up and exterminated.

"Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews and others were rounded up and exterminated. (see Footnote)

"China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents were rounded up and exterminated.

"Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians were rounded up and exterminated.

"Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians were rounded up and exterminated.

"Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million 'educated' people were rounded up and exterminated."

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.

So don't tell me gun control doesn't work! The numbers prove it!

The big lie is about who gun control works for!

The United Kingdom banned all hand guns in 1997. Since then, there murder rate has been lower than ours. Surprisingly, no mass killings occurred, it just prevented a mass killing at the hands of conservatives.

Australia banned all hand guns in 1998. Since then...

On a June evening two years ago, Dan Rather made many stiff British upper lips quiver by reporting that England had a crime problem and that, apart from murder, "theirs is worse than ours." The response was swift and sharp. "Have a Nice Daydream," The Mirror, a London daily, shot back, reporting: "Britain reacted with fury and disbelief last night to claims by American newsmen that crime and violence are worse here than in the US." But sandwiched between the article's battery of official denials -- "totally misleading," "a huge over-simplification," "astounding and outrageous" -- and a compilation of lurid crimes from "the wild west culture on the other side of the Atlantic where every other car is carrying a gun," The Mirror conceded that the CBS anchorman was correct. Except for murder and rape, it admitted, "Britain has overtaken the US for all major crimes."

In the two years since Dan Rather was so roundly rebuked, violence in England has gotten markedly worse. Over the course of a few days in the summer of 2001, gun-toting men burst into an English court and freed two defendants; a shooting outside a London nightclub left five women and three men wounded; and two men were machine-gunned to death in a residential neighborhood of north London. And on New Year's Day this year a 19-year-old girl walking on a main street in east London was shot in the head by a thief who wanted her mobile phone. London police are now looking to New York City police for advice.

None of this was supposed to happen in the country whose stringent gun laws and 1997 ban on handguns have been hailed as the "gold standard" of gun control.

Australia banned private ownership of most guns in 1996, crime has risen dramatically on that continent, prompting critics of U.S. gun control efforts to issue new warnings of what life in America could be like if Congress ever bans firearms. After Australian lawmakers passed widespread gun bans, (law-abiding) gun owners were forced to surrender about 650,000 weapons, which were later slated for destruction, according to statistics from the Australian Sporting Shooters Association.

...

Countrywide, homicides are up 3.2 percent; Assaults are up 8.6 percent; Amazingly, armed robberies have climbed nearly 45 percent;

In the Australian state of Victoria, gun homicides have climbed 300 percent; In the 25 years before the gun bans, crime in Australia had been dropping steadily, now there has been a reported "dramatic increase" in home burglaries and assaults on the elderly.

The murder rate in England & Wales has always been much less than in the US by a factor of nearly four.

It was much less than the UK when they had guns. Brits are, by nature, a reserved and self-controlled lot.

Americans on the other hand.....well we tend to be a bit more boisterous.

I hate agreeing with SM, but he is absolutely write on this topic.

That's boarderline retarded, they have 4x less murders and your clinging to the rate actually went up.

Good one your NRA dues are paid up and you have the talking points down pat.

Because facts are just that, talking points.

Good things your Brady Campaign dues are paid in full.

I'll take 100yrs of rising rates if we get down to where the much smarter Europeans are at. Wonder what their version of redneck gun lovers is.

Their violent crime rates were 4x less when they were allowed guns, and they still are 4x lower.

And yet their violent crime rates are climbing, while ours are dropping.

Those are just NRA talking points though. Clearly the DOJ and ATF are in bed with the NRA.

Any credibility that Dan Rather still possessed disappeared into the smoke of Washington propaganda in July 1997. The man is an out and out liar who had what amounted to 'pre-written' stories that he fed to the American people without checking the facts.
True, but the link doesn't rely on Dan for facts, but merely to introduce the story, and from a left-wing perspective.

take it from someone who has lived in europe and the US for an extended amount of time:

the average american has an unhealthy fascination with violence. this is especially true for violence involving firearms. in america, it seems as though everyone considers crime in big cities something normal. this is a problem. how can one fix it? f*ck if i know. i would have to say, however, that making it harder for people to acquire guns would be better than to make it easier or to just leave it the way it is.

That doesn't make a lot of sense since areas with the highest crime rates typically have the lowest legal firearms rates as well.
