Is America ready for a black president?

I think people are ready for a positive change. If Obama can deliver that, I think it will be a huge step forward in race relations.

Republicans were less likely to think we were ready.

The south is were people were most likely to say no.

There is a funny thing about racism. There are two kinds, in my experience.

In the south you are more likely to encounter people who will make noise about various minorities. But they will live as neighbors, work side by side, and lend a helping hand to these same minorities.

In other areas, most notably the northeast, you have the opposite. No one makes racist remarks. But let one walk thru their neighborhood and he can fear for his life. The racial lines between neighborhoods, social events and the like are very clearly drawn.

All of the above is not to say there aren't still some hardcore racists in the south. There are those who lament the demise of the kkk. But I think they are in the extreme minority. There was a time when the general population was afraid of them. But that time is long gone.
