Gordon Sondland was a Trump supporter who learned loyalty from Mitt Romney.

Sondland and Romney both claimed “conscience” for stabbing the President in the back.

If conscience was a butter knife President Trump would have bled to death faster than Julius Caesar.

US president Donald Trump has ordered the recall of the United States ambassador to the European Union, with immediate effect.

Gordon Sondland, a businessman and generous donor to the Trump campaign in 2016, took part in the House of Representatives’ impeachment procedure as a witness. Sondland had been responding to a subpoena from the House, and was a rare case of an administration official who obeyed the subpoena.

According to the main news sources, what happened then is behind what has happened now. In his sworn testimony, Sondland revealed that there had indeed been a quid pro quo with the suspension of US military aid to Ukraine and a demand from Trump and his lawyer, Rudi Giuliani, that the Ukrainians investigate the son of former vice-president Joe Biden on allegations of corruption.

“Was there a quid pro quo [with Ukraine]?” he asked on the stand. “As I testified previously, with regard to the requested White House call and White House meeting, the answer is yes.”

Trump had loudly and frequently stated there was no quid pro quo. Sondland’s testimony blew that claim out of the water. From a position as a fellow millionaire businessman who had the ear of the president he became a pariah within the administration. His departure was only a matter of time.

Marie Yovanovitch, the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine who was removed from her post in May 2019 and testified as part of the House impeachment inquiry, has retired from the State Department, according to a person familiar with her decision.

Friday was her final day as a department employee, according to the person, who said that Ms. Yovanovitch retired, and didn’t resign.

Ms. Yovanovitch didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment made through her attorney.

A career diplomat, Ms. Yovanovitch was the top U.S. representative in Kyiv from 2016 until her dismissal last spring. Upon her return to Washington, she joined Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service as a senior State Department fellow.

On the plus side Trump is finally learning about two facts of life in the swamp:

1. The way the federal government plays the game.

2. Firing a contemptible opponent is the one and only defense a president has against federal bureaucrats.

NOTE: It is a pity that President Trump did not fire all of the Clinton-Obama holdovers one minute after he took the oath of office.

Finally, President Trump knows he is doing the right thing because the man who was never right about anything said:

Joe Biden had a strong moment during Friday’s Democratic presidential debate in when he called on the audience to “stand and give Col. Vindman a show of how much we supported him.”

Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman was dismissed from his post on the National Security Council by President Trump Friday. He angered President Trump with his testimony in the impeachment inquiry, and Biden singled him out during the debate, comparing his service to the nation with that of conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

Trump awarded Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom during his State of the Union speech.

“Col. Vindman got thrown out of the White House,” the former vice president said during the debate in Manchester, N.H., adding that Trump “should be pinning a medal on Vindman and not on Rush Limbaugh. And I think that what we should be doing now, I we should all stand and give Col. Vindman a show of how much we supported him. Stand up and clap for Vindman!”

Biden’s audience

. . . rose to its feet and applauded.

I wonder if Tammy Duckshit is sucking up to Senile Joe:

Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) announced Thursday that she would block the promotions of 1,123 senior military officers until Defense Secretary Mark Esper promises that he will promote Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who is believed to have communicated with the “whistleblower” that sparked Trump’s impeachment.
