Vance has compared abortion to slavery and said women should remain in "violent" marriages


Trump vice presidential pick J.D. Vance has expressed disturbing stances on abortion and women's rights during his short time in the public eye as a senator from Ohio. Though Vance now says he supports the Trump/Republican platform of leaving abortion access up to states, Vance historically has voiced support for a national abortion ban.

In audio uncovered by KFile, Vance can be heard on a podcast in January 2022 while a candidate for Senate, saying he "certainly would like abortion to be illegal nationally," and was "sympathetic" to the view that a national ban was necessary to stop women from traveling across state lines to obtain an abortion.

Vance listed "End Abortion" as one of his major policy stances in a section on his website that has since been deleted:
 
Vance now says he supports the Trump/Republican platform of leaving abortion access up to states.

Since there was never an enumerated right to abortion, it is now left to the state legislators who are elected by the people, per the Constitution.
