That type of case is usually not even prosecuted if that particular crime was not committed in relation to another crime.
No criminal activity took place as a result of that gun purchase.

Still, nothing surprises me anymore.
This republic has become a dumpster fire beyond salvation
and it's not worth the effort to care about
knowing that it can't be fixed.

Somewhere down the line, we'll start from scratch.
The United States of America will become an historical footnote--
a noble effort that failed spectacularly.

The more intelligent among us realize that already.

Hopefully, this nation's replacement will be a significant improvement,
but just as easily, it could be even worse.
Our population isn't comprised of the shiniest pennies in the rolls.

Bullshit. This sort of case is prosecuted pretty regularly. The usual is for the person involved to plea out, not go to trial. If while in possession of that firearm, Bagman bought illicit drugs--say cocaine--from someone, then he would under federal law be considered to have been in possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime or felony. That is, if the gun was in his vehicle, and he went to buy drugs in that vehicle, he had "constructive possession" of the firearm and that makes the drug deal get enhanced for possession of a firearm if he had been arrested for it.
