Liberals: Why Oppose Socialism?

Michael Harrington had a point when he famously proclaimed socialism as a logical next step from liberalism. But when talking to liberals, I generally hear a pretty neo-liberal argument against socialism, if not an outright straw man. So I've been using your board for an experiment this past month - bring up socialism as much as possible, praise it, define it, tout it as practical and scientific, basically, put pressure on JPP liberals to side with it. Little has come out of it, though.

So my question to you is this: Why do you personally oppose socialism?

I've thread banned most right wingers, so this can maybe turn out interesting.

I appreciate the opinion of right wingers, even when they are horribly wrong.

Ban trolls from threads, not ppl who discuss things like adults.

Oh. I'm an American. While I support some aspects of socialism, that's not what this country was built upon.
