or levies in general, they just withstood a category 2 hurricane, what will happen when a cat 3, 4 or 5 hits

why are we building behind levies that will not hold during a disaster or even a bad storm

like ca earthquakes, hurricanes happen (just more often) and destroy

we have three major storms in the atlantic headed for the u s of a southeast one of them a cat 4 right now

in ca we have building codes designed to withstand the three known earthquake types - why are not the levies designed and built to withstand major storms

The levies are not being built for a 3-5 cat storm. We all know those only hit every hundred years or so ;)

yet almost every year we see idiots in CA watching as their homes are demolished in mud slides. Why do they keep building in those areas?

the view and lack of better locations, just like everywhere else in the us of a, the good stuff is taken so marginal areas are being built on with insufficient flood, fire and earthquake provisions

year after year we have so called natural disasters that are in fact man made disasters that could have been engineered out of existence

we build outward rather than upward and thereby consume valuable farmland and propagate suburban sprawl making mass transit next to impossible

Yes, from those of us living in rural areas to the city dwellers, please stay put.

I would guess because they do't have as many hurricanes than you have earth quakes. Also--earth quakes can not be easily predicted, so people don't have a lot of time or any, to evacuate. One of my competitors in business (a good guy, and good engine builder) is in that area, and has evacuated. Tis the season. Before the last one--they had hurricane parties. Wait till two more devestating hurricans wipe them out in the next 7 years--then we can compare them to CA earth quakes. Also--let me know when you think we can control mother nature. It kinda just happens to be that people like to live on the coasts. All we have is snow--and it is suppose to be a whopper of a winter. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Guess what Obama---I like 72 deg F. Screw you! lol
