One interesting thing about this race, I think, was that in 2004 70% of whites in MS voted against Kerry. In 2008, it was 80%. The black turnout went to about 35% of the total from 30%, and they increased their percentage for the D from about 95% to 99%, so the two cancelled themselves out. But this is definitely the most racially polarized race in Mississippi in a long while.
Oh, we won’t!
We’re going to go to DC for the inauguration. I wasn’t sure, because the hotels are just astronomical, and they won’t let you take a one night stay. It’s a minimum of three nights. So, it’s a couple thousand dollars. I worry about business drying up because of the economy, but at lunch, I just said “ok, you know what, let’s do it, just book it”. Screw it. I love the town and we won’t have any problem finding things to do in the days before 1/20. I don’t know, I just want to be there.
