It would serve him well, IMO, in the election as well. It would be better than trying to resurrect the past in negative attacks that he doesn't need. Steps forward rather than peering backwards will help him in the long run. Let the 527s do the negative while he continues to show how he will lead.
 
Not to mention we have a couple of months of developments which cant yet be factored into a plan.
 
Looking forward makes him look like a leader. Mcfossil and hockysticks are looking more cartoonish every day.
He could put forth the strategic initiatives he wants to get done, the troops can work the tactics after he's elected. It would help calm the paniking public.
