Pentagon's Hegseth: "diversity is our strength" is dumbest phrase in military history

I don't understand what diversity has to do with the military. We should be recruiting the best, brightest and most qualified regardless of melanin, genitalia, etc.

I've been saying so for years. Truth is diversity is a horrible idea. Mixing races, languages, and cultures always leads to disaster.

Always???

Trumpers even sound like Trump, He, the asshole Trump, seems to live in a world of superlatives.

In any case, Ancient Rome reveled in its diversity...and Rome dominated its world to a much greater extend than we dominate ours...and that domination spanned three times as long as we have even existed as a country.

What does diversity mean? And why is it a weakness?

  1. the state of being diverse; variety:

Diversity is often a weakness because it is divisive. That is, it divides rather than unifies. To use a biblical tale, look at the story of the Tower of Babel.

So separate them by race and gender?

As to the Tower of Babel:

Gateway to the Heavens: The Assyrian Account of the Tower of ...

The Tower of Babel, a biblical story in Genesis 11, explains the origin of diverse human languages by describing how people, united in language and intent, sought to build a city and a tower reaching to the heavens, an act of pride and defiance against God, who then confused their languages, scattering them and preventing completion of the tower.

I would say working together to reach the skies is a strength.

Diversity isn't something that should be pursued. We shouldn't be considering irrelevant characteristics when recruiting/signing people. If diversity happens, it should be by accident.
It is based on history of racism for example.

The Blacks were to be separated based on their color, not merit.

Same goes for women and others.

Again, we should recruit and sign the most qualified people. Melanin amount, genitalia and other irrelevant characteristics should not be a factor. We shouldn't seek diversity. If the signing most qualified people ends up creating diversity, great.

Great. Now explain what Hegseth meant by this: "I think the single dumbest phrase in military history is our diversity is our strength".

Is he implying that diversity is a weakness? If he didn't mean anything by it, then perhaps he should have chose his words carefully.
