Post-Capitalism

Rationalist

Hail Voltaire
I am all for free market capitalism. When combined with a basic safety net, I believe it is the most efficient system currently practical. However, it is also evident to me that eventually capitalism as we know it will run its course - that it will gradually evolve into something to better suit mankind's needs as we move into the future.

I do not believe Socialism is the answer, as this necessitates state coercion and has failed wherever it has been attempted. However, I do not wish to make this a discussion of capitalism vs. socialism. Let's discuss how we believe the world economy will evolve as we move deeper into the 21st century.

Personally, I believe technology itself will make capitalism and the profit incentive more or less irrelevant. It will probably be at least a couple centuries before that happens, but it is almost inevitable.

Children think its capitalism vs socialism. We are coerced to pay for a shitload of public services. Socialist just have a bigger saftey net. France is socialist lite, hardly a failure.
Of course world economies are all going more capitalist. Capitalism will fade, but long after your grand kids are dead.

unless you're talking gene roddenberry universe stuff

Some of it is not beyond the realm of possibility, at least as far as economics are concerned.

anything short of people being able to prosper from their own labor will fall short.

My argument is that eventually very little labor will be required, as robotics and nanotechnology become more advanced.

You're argument would require a societal and fundamenle culture shift in humna society, which would have to orignate in capitalist countries. I.E. its not something we're likely to see.

Don't mistake the current frankenstein, corporatist, distorted, war racket economy for a free market. There is no free market when there is a monopoly on law production and the use of force in a geographic area.

Define "Free Market Capitalism". If by that you mean laissez fair capitalism you are sadly mistaken. What you fail to consider is that the free market isn't the answer to all problems. There are just to many examples of the "Market" not being able to either solve big problems or provide very important services the people need like, education, national defense, national infrastructure, law enforcement, public safety, etc, etc. To call such government services that the "Market" fails to provide adequately "SOCIALSM" is beyond fucking stupid. That is not what socialism is.

You've basically ignored everything I said. I'm too lazy to explain myself, though, especially to an inbred from Ohio, so we'll have to leave it at that.

I don't think Derp was directly disagreeing with you. He did say, "Define "Free Market Capitalism". If by that you mean....."

As you know there are a few here who believe any social program means Socialism which, as Derp makes clear, is nonsense.
