A few things to consider.
First, as the population increases and we have to share space it's natural ones freedom will conflict with another person's freedom. For example, if only one person has access to a room it doesn't matter if they smoke, however, if others are present and breathing the same air they have a right to clean air. Another example is drinking and driving. If a person is alone on a country road and hits a tree no one else is injured. As automobiles increased and accidents increased the laws had to be changed. The same idea applies to most other situations.

Second, we depend on others more.
People living in cities do not have access to gardens. Because they have to depend on others for food we have to ensure the food is safe. Thus, rules applying to food production and handling.

Third, due to rapid transportation and communication the government is able to provide more governance. The Preamble to the Constitution is clear. "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

"Promote the general welfare." In other words do what is better for the country, as a whole. Regarding the health care plan surely a healthy population is preferable and something as simple as a free/affordable, yearly check-up will go a long way to ensure that. How many 5-minute blood pressure tests can be performed compared to the cost of looking after just one person incapacitated by a stroke?

The worlds birth rate continues to go down where not going to have to deal with over population especially since so many people are trying to prevent it. Once efficient electric cars are invented the world will no longer need as much oil, electric cars will replace oil powered ones. Once America/Europe invest enough money into renewable/nuclear energy the world will be able to sustain a lot more people then will be in it. Over population is relative to technology the world of 1800 could not hold 6.7 billion people but the world of 2050 will be able to sustain a lot more than 9 billion so long as all the right research is done. Solar panals will become more efficient. The nations of the world will tap into all renewable energy souces and nothing bad will happen in fact many countries may have labor shortages. So long as the right technology is discovered and used fast enough nothing bad will happen in the future.
 
Not at the expense of individual liberty. The Founders were pretty clear on that one.

That is somehow always lost in the debate isnt it? Everyone wants to quote Constitutional Law as a convenience...ie Mr. Inept of 1600 Penn when giving his opinion on the Mosque near G/0. He of the ever expanding bureaucracy.

But the government doesn't need to invest taxpayer money into these technologies. Your green vision is just an excuse for fascism or "directed economies". The world doesn't need or want this level of government intervention. we just want the government to keep slave goods out of our economies so we're not incentivizing tyranny and putting our own citizens out of work.

Protectionism and reasonable trade policy is the answer to our prayers; Green Fascism isn't.

Which would you consider to be the greatest lack of liberty:
A. A government like the current one taxing at the current rate and having the same laws/restrictions
B. A government having no income tax for the first $50,000, 10% for the next $50,000 and 50% for any income over $100,000 but little or no restrictions regarding business, guns, drugs, smoking, seat belts, etc, etc.

For option B to work, you should start the 50k (although I would prefer 60k) crowd off at 5%, jump to 10% at 100k, 15% at 250k, 25% at 500k, and 33% for anything over 1mm...
