The Biden administration has no leadership qualities and that is still true today. Because of the lack of leadership the Taliban benefitted and soldiers died

The U.S. State Department lacked clear leadership during the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan that saw the Taliban reclaim the country, an internal report released Friday has concluded.

Commissioned by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the After Action Review (AAR) saw the report team conduct more than 150 interviews with current and former Department officials in order to make recommendations on how best to handle a comparable situation in the future.

In mid-2021, President Joe Biden opted to proceed with Trump administration plans to withdraw U.S. forces from the country. The Taliban, emboldened by the move, went on the offensive and managed to secure large swathes of formerly contested territory from the beleaguered Afghan government. That offensive culminated in their August seizure of Kabul and the chaotic withdrawal of remaining U.S. personnel and American allies from Hamid Karzai International Airport.

"Critically, the decision to hand over Bagram Air Base to the Afghan government meant that Hamid Karzai International Airport (HKIA) would be the only avenue for a possible noncombatant evacuation operation (NEO)," the report noted.

The AAR specifically highlighted the Biden administration decision to hand over Bagram Air Base to the Afghan government as a key factor in complicating the evacuation. That handover rendered Karzai Airport the only location from which they could evacuate personnel. Moreover, the AAR faulted both the Biden and Trump administration for not adequately preparing for worst-case scenarios ahead of the withdrawal.

It further identified a lack of clear leadership during evacuation planning as hindering the State Department response.

"U.S. military planning for a possible [noncombatant evacuation operation] had been underway with post for some time, but the Department’s participation in the NEO planning process was hindered by the fact that it was unclear who in the Department had the lead. Coordination with DoD worked better on the ground in Kabul," it read.

One of the core issues, however, was simply an overestimation of the stability of the Afghan government.

"While predictions varied, up until almost the time Kabul fell, most estimates were that the Afghan government and its forces could hold the city for weeks, if not months," the report continued.

I must say, it was suspect that trump only negotiated his surrender with the Taliban, leaving the fake Afg. government out of it.

I wonder how much the Taliban paid him?

It's a real shame that trump surrendered.
It was Biden that did that. Biden did not make the Taliban follow through on the agreement they signed

It was Trump's negotiation and time table. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...istan-war-military-pullout-report-biden-trump
A US state department report on Friday criticized the handling of the 2021 evacuation from Afghanistan, saying decisions by President Joe Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump to withdraw troops had “serious consequences for the viability” and security of the former US-backed government....

...“The decisions of both President Trump and President Biden to end the US military mission in Afghanistan had serious consequences for the viability of the Afghan government and its security,” said the review.

While those decisions were outside its scope, the review said that “during both administrations there was insufficient senior-level consideration of worst-case scenarios and how quickly those might follow”.

That said, I agree Biden fucked up. The proof is the fact even our allies were surprised by the speed of withdrawal. Anyone who puts all the blame on Biden is a fucking moron and a Trump Dick Sucker (TDSer).

That’s like saying the bay of pigs wasn’t Kennedy’s fault because it was Ike’s plan. Biden could have moved around Trumps withdrawal dates but he would rather have it fail so he could blame Trump for it.

Read it again, Tink.

Yes, Bay of Pigs was partly Kennedy's fault but he shared it with Ike. Are you denying Trump had anything to do with it, Tink? Will you run away to avoid answering? Will you lie? Or will you admit the truth?

Biden left on the date that Trump negotiated. We were badly outnumbered and if Biden hung on, it could have gotten uglier.

Not as much as they paid Joke Biden--probably through his kid Bagman-- to actually go through with the plan. It's the only one Joke stuck with. All the other Trump things, like building a border wall, Joke trashed and stopped day one...

I saw an interesting theory that the rush to get out of Afghanistan was due to Washington knowing that their Ukraine war was starting soon, and that it would be problematic to have both wars going on at the same time.

I strongly disagree. Biden was Commander in Chief. He could have sent in the entire Marine Corps to cover the withdrawal. Instead, he gave a stupid order like "Get out now, I don't care what it costs". The JCS would of objected, but once pressed hard enough, they'd do as ordered. The full story of this won't come out for a few years, but it's pretty obvious that's how it's going to read.

This isn't like Bill Clinton's cruise missile response to al-Qaeda; woulda, coulda, shoulda. That was mixed a lot of unknowns and Newt Gingrich's angry white Republicans screaming "wag the dog!" Biden, who lost a son to war, should have ordered the withdrawal ASAP but at JCS discretion. That didn't happen so it means Biden ordered otherwise.

Let the generals run the war, even if it's a withdrawal. Only fucking morons think they are smarter than the generals. Presidents set policy. Let the military handle their end of it.

LOL.

trump surrendered. He always surrenders and pretends that he didn't.
