The state of California is worried this will send gas prices through the roof and that they'll get a smackdown from neighboring states that get their gasoline from California refineries.

Their solution? Socialize the refineries and have the state run them, subsidizing their operation if necessary...

Not being in the oil and gas industry I'm not familiar with the 'common sense' regulation that has been proposed for them that has (I'm assuming) been rejected and is leading to this potential outcome by the state of California.
