FDA: OK to eat tomatoes again
Source of salmonella remains a mystery;

July 17: The FDA says it is OK to eat tomatoes again, lifting its salmonella warning amid signs that the outbreak has slowed, MSNBC's Alex Witt reports.

The U.S. government has declared it’s OK to eat tomatoes again, lifting its salmonella warning amid signs that the outbreak — while not over — may finally be slowing.

Officials reiterated earlier warnings that the people most at risk of salmonella should avoid hot peppers — jalapenos and serranos.

The government still doesn’t know just what caused the salmonella outbreak, which has sickened more than 1,200 people in 42 states, Washington, D.C., and Canada.

Thursday’s move doesn’t mean tomatoes are cleared. Early on, there was good evidence linking them to the sick, but the FDA said it lifted the warning because there are no longer any tomatoes coming into the market from locations that were being looked at as possible sources of contamination. The warning had been in place since June 7.

“We still do not know where the original contamination point was,” David Acheson, assistant commissioner for food protection at the FDA, said in a conference call.

Among later illnesses, there seems to be more evidence against peppers. The FDA is sending inspectors to Mexico to investigate a packing house that receives peppers from a number of farms.

So the FDA who first ordered Tomatoes off the shelf and not to be eaten, due to the fact of a disease of unknown origins.

Said now its ok to eat those same Tomatoes, even though disease has not be found, and people are still getting sick.

Nothing has changed in the last month yet the same tomatoes which the FDA warned not to eat last month are now considered safe to eat!!!!

Yeah the FDA is not allowed to have any balls.
Remember how the right fought the food labeling act tooth and nail ?

well if it had been in place for the spinach deal, or the tomato deal we could have figuterd this out much sooner.
