The French kill me. They are quickto protest and strike over injustices around the world, but never actually do anything of substance to correct them or they complain when other people do. Case in point Afghanistan. In the months leading to our invasion, I used to see all kind of Taliban posters in the metro, begging people do something about the injustices afghan women had to endure. We invade and try to topple al queda, they still had something to say about it (before the Iraq invasion). Its just like shut up already. You aren't going to do anything about it.

"The plan was for the torchbearers to be encircled by several hundred officers, some in riot police vehicles and on motorcycles, others on rollerblades and on foot. Closest to the torchbearer would be the Chinese torch escorts, with Paris police on rollerblades moving around them. French firefighters in jogging shoes would encircle the rollerbladers, while motorcycle police would form the outer layer of security"

This is comical.

hey come on it give US turbo-libs with money to burn a good protest to attend. It's like a concert to them.

Actually, France was part of the international coalition for the Afghanistan war. It was Iraq that they (rightly) opposed.

i was thinking the same thing.. how is this shit important enough to get arrested over.. and how do they even have the time to do it.

Think about how much money is being spent keeping a flame lit... We sure do have our priorities.

Chap, I guess that anything that doesn’t stink of apathy is a bewilderment to Americans? After all we are in a war that is murdering and maiming thousands a month, including our own citizens, and though 70% want it over, less than 1% go into the streets to protest it.

Who should be embarrassed here again?

Good on the French.

I can't say i've uttered that phrase very often, but they've gone one better than London by forcing the cancellation of this farce.

Now, what's going to happen in San Fransisco on Wednesday?

i dont think its apathy.. its more like what are my priorities and responsibilities.

Must be nice to have so much free time.

Whether or not the nation boycotts the Olympics, I will be boycotting the Olympics this year. I couldn't care less about the torch.

"Air Force: Since October 21, 2001, French reconnaissance aircraft and air tankers have contributed to the air campaign over Afghanistan. In 2001, France was the only country, along with the United States, to have flown bombing missions over Afghanistan in direct support of American ground troops, in particular during Operation Anaconda. "

That's a fair point. And they are still there. They'd never lead anything against China though. Its all lip service.

Yeah it takes a lot of time to stand once a month holding a sign for one hour. And i wasn't directing it at you personally, but the public at large.

Its all lip service if you don't start a fucking war? What are you on today LadyT? Have you caught the warmongers disease?

Do you have any idea how many people would die in a war on China? It would kill so many people, the ends aren't worth the means. And yet, because we are practical, and realize the ends don't justify the means, we to say that the conditions are terrible? Go drink your kool-aid some more.

There are so many atrocities going on in the world right now, it's incredible, but the US isn't the world police. Neither is France. It would cause more harm than good to pretend to be. And yet, I am still going to voice my opinion that this is wrong.

Yeah. I came down with a case of McCainitis this weekend.

Get your emo panties out of it bunch. I'm not advocating any kind of war. I'm merely complaining about the French mentality in general.

I complain about the America bleeding pool of apathy, in general.

Better emo panties than no panties!

Oh wait, that doesn't work so well...

Come on now... ease up on the French... according to the article they managed to attack a wheelchair bound athlete and force him to extinguish the torch. That is impressive.

:vik:

Yeah, they even overcame the overwhelming urge to surrender in order to do it too!
