The House GOP circus

House Republicans on Monday open the next act of their Washington farce, desperately searching for a speaker after ousting the incumbent and rejecting two would-be replacements while still clueless about how to dig out of the crisis.

Congress has seen impeachments, fiscal cliffs, government shutdowns and even an insurrection, but the modern Republican Party is surpassing itself with a debacle that is embarrassing senior party leaders and threatens to damage the House GOP’s hopes of saving and expanding upon its tiny majority in 2024. Far from tackling critical bills needed to fund the government, the leaderless House can’t do the basics, like pass a resolution condemning the Hamas attacks in Israel.

At least nine new candidates have signed up to run for speaker ahead of a new selection process this week after Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan folded his futile bid for the job on Friday, following Majority Leader Steve Scalise the week before. The uprising that began nearly three weeks ago with the toppling of Speaker Kevin McCarthy has now weakened three of the most powerful figures in the House GOP.

Could be only beginning, there exist a real possibility this will extend beyond the budget deadline in November, or end too late to act to prevent the resulting economic consequences. Even if they arrive at a Speaker, unless they change the Matt Gaetz rule making it easy to fire the Speaker, which is doubtful, they will be right back in the same debacle they are now

They all say they want to aid Israel, attend to the border, and whatever the talking points are, yet put themselves in the very position that prevents addressing any of that, and makes America look f*cked up to the rest of the world

In the end, they’ll blame it all on Biden, so what Biden ought to do is call for a special session under Article 2 Section 3 and pressure the House to keep working through its scheduled recess between Oct. 27 and Nov. 9, and until it installs a Speaker and passes a budget.

The Democrats will need to step in to elect the Speaker.

The Democrats will need to step in to elect the Speaker.

Should, and there has been offers floated across the isle, but in today’s GOP it is political suicide to work with Democrats, they won’t do it and unless it were to happen, the Democrats themselves can do nothing

I hope the whole shit show gets shut down.

If the Reds nominate someone who is not a pro-Trump 1-6 insurrectionist and a complete liar, maybe the Dems can vote for him. But the Repubs lie easily and often. Is there a Repub that can be trusted?
