ACLU sues the U.S. Secret Service and City of Denver
There are at least 12 groups who plan to demonstrate during the upcoming Democratic convention in Denver. Groups include Codepink, Citizens for Obama, Recreate 68, and ACLU of Colorado. ACLU said they filed the lawsuit today over 1st amendment violations from the 2004 convention in an effort to allow these groups freedom to demonstrate.
"Our purpose is to vindicate the rights not only of the [plaintiffs], but everyone who wants some opportunity to communicate their views in conjunction with the Denver convention," said Mark Silverstein, legal director for the ACLU's Colorado chapter, according to the ACLU website.
The lawsuit states:
...the Planitiffs seek to vindicate their rights to engage in free speech and assembly in connection with the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, August 25-28 of this year.---The Plaintiffs also intend to conduct rallies and demonstrations in which they and others will express their views on a variety of political, social, and economic issues to the Delegates attending the Convention, many of whom are elected officials, and all of whom will determine the national platform of the Democratic Party and nominate that party’s candidate for the Presidency of the United States.
The plaintiff's claim their rights are being violated:
...The suit asks the Secret Service to provide information to the city to process applications for parade permits and to disclose plans for the anticipated demonstration zone.
After those plans are disclosed, the suit asks the court to review restrictions so that they will not infringe on the First Amendment rights of the demonstrators. CBS4denver

Florida Democrats Threaten To Shut Down DNC In Denver If Delegates Not Seated
"We will shut down the convention! Nobody goes in until Florida goes in!"--Rep. Corrine Brown (D-Florida)
"If the Florida delegation is not seated, we will march on Denver, we'll take all of the buses willing to go to Denver, and we will shut that convention down before it gets started"--Luis Rivera, League of United Latin American Citizens legal advisor
More threats of unrest and shenanigans at the DNC in Denver if Florida's Democrat delegates aren't seated:
Chanting "Count our votes!" a group of fired-up Democrats demonstrated at DNC Headquarters, calling for the party to seat Florida's delegates in August.
Rep. Corrine Brown was among those protesting. The Florida Democrat and Superdelegate said they are ready to go to the mat for disenfranchised primary voters.
"We will shut down the convention! Nobody goes in until Florida goes in!"
National party leaders stripped Florida's delegates after the state moved the primary ahead of February 5th, violating party rules. DNC Chairman Howard Dean has said that the delegate dilemma in Florida and Michigan will be settled before the convention. But so far, nothing has been done.
The League of United Latin American Citizens organized the protest. Their legal advisor, Luis Rivera, joined Rep. Brown's call to shut down the convention.
"If the Florida delegation is not seated, we will march on Denver, we'll take all of the buses willing to go to Denver, and we will shut that convention down before it gets started."
Once again, moonbat protestors (Recreate '68) and even enraged Democrats will be the source of convention discord, not Rush Limbaugh or Roseanne Barr.
Both comments do not constitute "incitement"--but an explicit threat to "shut down the convention" (ostensibly from inside the Pepsi Center in an intraparty battle) will no doubt have ramifications outside in the streets, as convention chaos turns into more of those "spontaneous" protests, especially if Florida delegates are not allowed inside, or black Democrat voters feel disenfranchised.
