The NRA's Plan: Expand the TSA!

The NRA plan for school safety is an armed agent in every school. And the plan for movie theaters? For shopping malls? For churches, synagogues, and mosques? Bars and restaurants? Taken seriously, the NRA is calling for the TSA everywhere and forever. No wonder they won't take questions.

Having armed security on-site failed to prevent the deadliest mass murder at an American high school.

In 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 15 people and wounded 23 more at Columbine High School. The destruction occurred despite the fact that there was an armed security officer at the school and another one nearby -- exactly what LaPierre argued on Friday was the answer to stopping "a bad guy with a gun."

The Fort Hood shooting took place on November 5, 2009, at the most populous U.S. military installation in the world. In the course of the shooting, a single gunman, an army psychiatrist, killed 13 people and wounded 29 others.

The armed guards, base police, base security systems, and trained servicemen were unable to prevent this massacre.

This crew is unreal. There was a guy on CNN just now who said that all teachers should be armed. The host asked him what he'd do if a teacher wasn't comfortable w/ that - if all they wanted to do was teach, and not be trained to fire guns & shoot at people, and he said he'd move his kid to another school if that was the case.

Nutters.

Gun bans didn't help those areas either.

[h=5]Question posed by Lapierre during his 30 minute NRA diatribe yesterday:

"Would you rather have your 911 call bring a good guy with a gun from a mile away or a minute away?”

Well, in 1 minute, 100 kids can be murdered thanks to the nation's obsession with assault weapons. So I guess it doesn't matter how far away the 'hero' is.

Unfortunately we may have no choice. As long as people like LaPierre are unwilling to address the underlying causes of these incidents and make some hard decisions.

True. This is a difficult problem. Smug simple minded glib suggestion aren't very helpful. What LaPierre suggested is a half assed inadequate solution that we may have no choice but to implement. It also harkens back to the question I asked before. Is this the kind of people we want to be? Apparently LaPierre's answer to that rhetorical question is "yes".

In a country of 300 million people, LaPierre represents 4 million people.

And he doesn`t really represent them, he just tricks them out of some dues money with nonstop lies. Most of those 4 million people disagree with him about a lot of stuff.

A Justice Department study on the federal assault weapons ban, which was law for 10 years found “Gun murders declined 10.3 percent in states without preexisting assault weapons bans.” 10.3 percent. Another study by the Justice Department in 2004 concluded “If the ban is lifted, gun and magazine manufacturers may reintroduce assault weapons models and large capacity magazines, perhaps in substantial numbers.”

That ignores that murder rates have been dropping g after ban years as well, indicating that the problem, and its solution , lies elsewhere.

Father land security stormtroopers on every street corner.
Something I am sure Fraidy cat trepublicans will support.
It will give them more freedom?
