The sky is falling!

Do you remember 1996?

The unemployment rate in November 1996, when disgraced and disbarred BJ Clinton won reelection, was 5.4%.

That's three-tenths of a percent higher than today's.

Yet a Lexis-Nexis search of the media's 1996 economic news reveals that the economy was reported to be "booming" and "robust" at the time.

No mention of meltdowns, mass layoffs, or impending disaster for America's labor force...

Is it hard to square that with the "grim picture" of "pink slip nation" reported by the Minneapolis Star Tribune recently - despite the fact that 1996's unemployemnt figures were worse than 2008's?
