Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) compared new charges against former President Trump that accuse him of working with Mar-a-Lago employees to delete surveillance footage at the club to the tactics of the fictionalized Corleone organized crime family.

“It appears that way,” Christie said in an interview Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” when asked whether he sees a clear-cut case for obstruction of justice.

“It’s pretty brazen. These guys were acting like the Corleones with no experience. I mean, the day after a grand jury subpoena is served, which includes the surveillance tapes, they go down to Mar-a-Lago, and Walt Nauta appears to be the Fredo of this family. They sent him to go down there. And they sent him to go and delete it. This is bad stuff,” Christie continued.

Trump always fancied himself as a Mob Boss and liked to hang around Italian gangsters just like he loved to hang around dictators.

Trump's excuses don't fly since, as an ex-President, he has higher security than current Congressional reps. No one can get a picture with him unless Trump wants it to happen.

A spokesperson for Donald Trump would not say if the former president knew a notorious Philadelphia mobster, after the two men were photographed together at a Trump-owned golf club earlier this month.

“President Trump takes countless photos with people,” the spokesperson told the Philadelphia Inquirer, which obtained the picture of Trump and Joseph “Skinny Joey” Merlino standing together and making thumbs-up gestures.

“That does not mean he knows every single person he comes in contact with.”

The Inquirer said the picture was provided by a source who requested anonymity. It shows Trump with two men, one unidentified, the other Merlino.

Merlino, the paper said, was once “a leader of a violent crew on his way up to being boss of an organised crime operation active in Philadelphia and Atlantic City” – the latter city one where Trump had casino interests.

Merlino was convicted on racketeering charges in 2001, and spent a decade in prison. He was imprisoned again in 2018, after pleading guilty to a gambling charge, then released in 2020.

I've had direct involvement with many hard working Italian businessmen,
but up until this very moment, the only Italian gangsters known to exist
are relatively entertaining fictional characters on films and TV.

It's curious as to why they picked us for these creatively imagined characters,
but I will admit to being amused by many of the fictional stories.

Half of The Godfather characters, in their personal quirks and demeanor,
reminded me of close friends and relatives.

The Sopranos characters not so much, as none of my family members were even near that stupid,
but I still enjoyed the show anyway.

It's kind of fun, but adults are supposed to recognize fiction,

I have no doubt there are many hard-working, honest hyphenated-Americans of all ancestries but to deny the existence of Italian mobsters and the Cosa Nostra is as silly as Mexican-Americans denying the existence of the Mexican drug cartels.

Remember Joseph Columbo? He was the head of one of NYC's Five Families then started the Italian-American Civil Rights League denying the existence of the Mafia...until he was whacked. LOL
