"You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in your car," Kelly said. "And provided you're in the boundaries of a single parking space, you'll be able to eat or drink right next to your car. However, you're not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you're not going to be able to take out a grill, and you're not going to be able to take up more than one parking space. And it'll all be watched very carefully."
You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in you car. And provided you're in the boundaries of a single parking space, you'll be able to eat or drink right next to your car.

” -- Al Kelly, Super Bowl committee
The tailgating news came during the committee's Monday news conference regarding transportation and safety for the Feb. 2, 2014, game.
There will be only three ways for the expected 80,000 ticketholders to get to the game. The committee will charter buses called the Fan Express, which will cost $51 and pick up and drop off passengers at nine locations around the region. Fans can also take N.J. Transit to the MetLife Stadium stop or be dropped off by vehicles that must have parking passes.

There will be fewer than 13,000 parking spots available for fans.

And hiring a black car, taxi or limo won't be an option for VIPs who will spend thousands of dollars per ticket. No cars will be allowed near the stadium on game day without parking passes, and any car that drops off a passenger will have to wait at the stadium.

"Nobody's going to be dropped off by black car," Kelly said. "You can have a black car, a green car, a white car, a red car as long as you have parking, and the car needs to stay on the premises the entire time."

Fans who had considered parking farther from the stadium and getting there on foot will not be allowed to enter.
"You cannot walk to the Super Bowl," Kelly said. "You can get your hotel to drop you off at one of the New Jersey Transit locations or get the shuttle to take you to a Fan Express location, but you cannot walk."
...

The reduced parking capacity is a result of the large security perimeter needed for the Super Bowl. Fans will have to go through security screenings at the train station and again at the stadium, Kelly said.

So you cannot walk to the stadium, if you are one of the luck ones that get to take a car there (for which I assume you will be charged a lot)... you cannot tailgate, but they will let you drink and eat IN your car or right near by... just no comforts, no grills.

They will of course set up transportation to hose you for a mere $50+...

It is immoral, no tailgating, perposterous!

That and 'you can't walk to the game'!!! Why the hell not? Oh... because if you walk they can't charge you $50+ to take their public transportation. My luck... this will be the year the Chiefs go to the Super Bowl

Lol, not being able to walk is ridiculous!

Yep, they are planning on makings killing with fees!

yep... and the no tailgating means people will have to buy food from THEIR vendors. I would seriously be torn on whether to go or not if KC made it to the game. With Gronk out, the Pats chances just went down. That leaves the evil ponies...

I don't understand why they'd have the game outside, in Feb? That's going to be a disaster. I think the tailgating thing is more about limited parking, than anything else.

Fuck New Jersey! The conditions do favour Seattle, though... :awesome:

Grind - that gas law makes NJ the East Coast version of Oregon (except I would never be that mean to Oregon). :D

Dude....I thought you were a free enterprize capitalist. You going socialist on us? LOL

It's the Super Bowl. Like this is going to be an issue. You know how many Joe, Upper Middle Class, Six Packs will be going to this game? None. That's how many. It's all one great big corporate party and even if you were able to land an SB ticket and you can actually afforde one then these other costs are probably pretty insignificant. Also given the SB's notorious repuration for being anti-climactic, the viewing experience is probably better at home in front of your TV.

They didn't say you couldn't walk to the game. Have you ever been to New York? Have you ever tried to find a freaking parking spot within 50 miles of your destination? Good luck with that! LOL I'm sure you're more than welcome to walk to the venue....good luck finding a cab to drop you off within walking distance or geting a hotel within walking distance and you can forget about finding a parking spot...not gonna happen. Welcome to the Big Apple! LOL

But then again I do agree with you...NYC is a sucky venue for the SB. It should be played every year in Green Bay!!

And yes...I know I'm crazy. :)

The Superbowl should rotate between NFL cities. Every NFL city should host the Superbowl. I am all for Ice Bowl II, even though I know that was not a Superbowl, it should be someday.

Hey I thought you were a capitalist...charge what the market will bear and all that sort of thing? :)
