Torture Hearings

Good God, can't Bush hire an attorney general that doesn't obfuscate and hem and haw about torture?

This is like a breath of fresh air: Lt. Gen. Michael D. Maples, the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, testified to congress today on waterboarding. In typical military fashion - short, direct, clear answers. Paraphrasing:

Senator Levin: General, is waterboarding illegal under International Law?

General Maples: Yes, sir.

Senator Levin: Is waterboarding inhumane?

General Maples: Yes, sir.

Senator Levin: Do the (legal, non-torture) interogation methods in the Army Field manual give you all the tools you need to interrogate and collect intelligence?

General Maples: Sir, they do and we have confirmed that.
