Trump Mercilessly Mocked Over Frighteningly False Tariff Claim

The former president described his proposal to impose tariffs on foreign-made products as a tax that "doesn't affect our country."

Mark Cuban joined a number of critics who mocked Donald Trump on Saturday after the Republican presidential nominee’s false claim that imposing tariffs doesn’t “affect our country.”
The former president, in a meandering speech at a campaign rally, pledged to impose tariffs on foreign-made products from China and other countries in order to bring jobs “back home” in an effort to take in “billions and billions of dollars.”

“A tariff is a tax on a foreign country, that’s the way it is, whether you like it or not. A lot of people like to say, ‘Oh, it’s a tax on us.’ No, no, no,” Trump told the crowd at the rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.
He later added, “It’s a tax on a country that’s ripping us off and stealing our jobs. And it’s a tax that doesn’t affect our country.”

Trump has previously pushed the false claim on tariffs despite multiple media outlets noting that American consumers and industries have bore much of the cost of Trump’s tariffs.
Several economists recently told Newsweek that his tariff proposal would raise prices for U.S. consumers and that such a plan would hurt American companies as well.

He should be mocked for it. The question is why did Biden leave the tariffs in place?

Sadly this is populism in action; tariffs, price controls, crazy child tax credits etc. etc.

Trump seems to be lauding his FAILURE at negotiation. Which is ironic given how much he claims to be a "businessman". All he knows is the language of intimidation and anger. Sure it plays well to his base and that's perfectly fine. But it doesn't work on the international stage. If it did then Kim Jong Un would be leader of the world.

Has Harris spoke about what she would do? Will she rescind them? Keep them in place? Try to out crazy Trump and increase them?

Exactly, both candidates are doing it, eliminating the tax on tips being another, sounds good, but ain’t happening

Interesting how Americans are so confused on understanding tariffs, or even trade for that matter, explaining even comparative advantage and why the US doesn’t produce good for Walmart is a job

Please list all the Chinese [products that went up 25% to US consumers from the 25^ tariff Trump imposed.

As always, you and yours are clueless.

I go back to this post from 2008. To me it sums the mindset for why we see people in both parties supporting tariffs, being against the TPP etc. (the topic of the thread was China-U.S. trade and how it supposedly cost U.S. jobs)

(And it doesn't matter that tariffs are shown to hurt American consumers and not bring back jobs. People THINK they are helping the middle and working class because the politicians tell them so - regardless of what the data shows)

"You think this was an accident, or somehow all unintentional?

This was exactly what the wall street republicans, and corporate-sponsored Dems had in mind when the passed NAFTA, WTO, and China MFN.

A downward pressure on labor costs and wages in the United States.

People like Cawacko, Damocles, and Stuperfreak actually bought into the nonsense that William F Buckley, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, and Alan Greenspan were actually valiantly trying to improve the status, power, and wage potential of america's working middle class. Is it possible to be any more foolish that to believe scions of the conservative movement and america's rich investor were invested in improving the power and status of Joe and Jane working class american?"
