Trump said last night that during his term Putin told him he "dreamed of invading Ukraine". Since this was said before the invasion it obviously was said in confidence, a confidence Trump respected. It is not something said to the leader of nation that is not your friend, that is not your ally. The United States was and is neither. But Trump was and is both.
