A Kaibeto man has been federally charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a Navajo Nation police officer Sunday night.

According to court documents filed Tuesday by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Flagstaff, Victor Bigman, 48, "with premeditation and malice aforethought, did willfully kill and murder Darrell Curley ..."

According to an affidavit submitted by the FBI, Sgt. Curley had responded to a domestic violence call at the Bigman home at about 10 p.m. in Kaibeto.

"Gloria Bigman twice called Navajo Nation dispatch in Tuba City, because her two sons were fighting," stated the affidavit.

Curley and Officer Vernon Begay responded to the call.

"During the course of the call, gunshots were fired, resulting in the death of Sergeant Curley and the hospitalization of Victor (Bigman)," stated the affidavit.

FBI agents served a search warrant on the Bigman property and placed four empty 9 mm cartridges and two .40-caliber cartridges into evidence.

Authorities say a deputy sheriff is dead following a shooting in Berks County Wednesday night.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. at 43 Pine Swamp Road in Albany, Pa., authorities say.

State Police say the 28-year-old deputy sheriff was serving a warrant to Matthew Connors for burglary, criminal trespass and various other offenses.

His girlfriend answered the door and while she was talking with police, the suspect slipped out the back and into the woods. Authorities followed him.

Connors then threatened Pagerly with an AK-47.

He was ordered to drop the gun, instead, a gun battle ensued.

Connors was pronounced dead on the scene, Pagerly was flown to the Lehigh Valley Hospital where he died from gunshot wounds to the body, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.

Pagerly was a Reading native and served in the military in both Kosovo and Iraq.
