Why do the uneducated love them some Trump?

Trump appeals to white working-class Americans who believe that immigrants are taking their jobs, siphoning public resources, destroying the country and should go back to where they came from.

For them the issue is personal.

That's why Trump's anti-immigrant and anti-Syrian refugee rhetoric plays so well at his rallies. He's preaching to the choir.

A recent Washington Post-ABC News poll found 47 percent of Republican-leaning respondents support the deportation of undocumented immigrants and oppose accepting refugees from Syria and other Mideast conflicts. These voters account for almost 75 percent of Trump's support.

The poll comes on the heels of the non-partisan Public Religion Research Institute's release of its American Values Survey, which found that 55 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents who support Trump identify as white working class. "On no issue do Trump supporters differ more from those supporting other Republican candidates," the survey said, "than on the issue of immigration."

Nearly 70 percent of Trump supporters say immigration is a critical issue to them personally, while only half of those who support other candidates say the same.

"Trump supporters are much more likely to express negative views of immigrants," said the survey, "than the supporters of other candidates."

A whopping 80 percent of Trump supporters say immigrants are a burden because they take American jobs, housing and health care. Almost three-quarters take issue with immigrants they come into contact with who speak little or no English.

Not that Trump supporters hold a monopoly on negative views of immigrants.

Supporters of other Republican candidates also aren't fans. They just hold immigrants in slightly less disdain.
