Wouldn't This Be Something

"There is a strong possibility that Barack Obama will ask Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) to serve as his Secretary of Commerce, Democratic Senate aides tell the Huffington Post.

The move would fill a vacancy that has lingered since Gov. Bill Richardson withdrew his nomination. And provided that Al Franken emerges victorious in the Minnesota recount, it would give Democrats in the Senate a 60th caucusing member, as New Hampshire's Democratic governor John Lynch would appoint Gregg's replacement.

Asked for a response, White House spokesman, Bill Burton, in an email to the Huffington Post, said the "president hasn't made a pick yet."

The potential of Gregg leaving the Senate will almost certainly set off an intense lobbying effort from his fellow Republican senators to persuade him to turn down the Commerce post. Already, a GOP operative writes in to say: "No way that Gregg takes it."

True he is a Republican.
Party first.

does he serve his country first or his party?
Many would believe that serving as a hurdle for the current Administration would be "serving their country" and that Obama was selecting him to attempt to remove a hurdle, or make it smaller.

Sometimes people have a different perspective than you do on what is "serving their country".

hes gonna have to do something to garner some good will with the right or hes gonna get very little done.

There is nothing Obama can do to garner good will from the right. At least Limbaugh is honest, and said straight out that he hopes Obama fails. That is what the entire right hopes.

Obama needs to go to the people.

He didn't say that "outright"...

He said, "If his policies are socialist..."

They just cut the modifier off and use the comment out of context.

While I don't often listen, I can certainly understand the difference between what he said, and what you say he said.

And, IMO, it appears as if he understands "the people" wouldn't support some of the package. There is a reason he wants to stuff it down now, while the honeymoon is still fresh.

If I were elected, you might say something like, "If his policies are anti-women and anti-choice then I hope he fails..."

If I cut off the "if-then" portion it sure would sound differently.

Oh yeah, I didn't hear the actual quote, did you? Rush alters transcripcts, so just so we can be certain what happened, what have you got?

It's so annoying how you are always adding shit in after hitting send.

So what is it about the stimilus you don't want, and what do you offer as an alternative? You and usc seem to be advocating doing nothing. I know usc's job and livelihood are not on the line, I guess you're safe as houses too huh?

That's good for you two, but not all of us are so lucky.

I heard a tape of it on Dan & Craig on the way home from work. Craig is a Democrat, Dan a Republican both are attorneys. It is probably one of the most balanced shows I've heard on the radio.

Even Craig admitted that the statement was taken out of context. When phrased as "If the policies are socialist, then I hope he fails..." the statement takes a whole new meaning.

Well I haven't heard that anywhere. And I can't accept things you hear on the radio when no one else is around, sorry Damo.

Nobody with half a brain hopes obama fails. I don't know one person who is a republican that wants him to fail. we need him to succeed.

You haven't heard it anywhere because, if you had, you would assume the "transcripts have been altered"... Methinks that Huffington is probably not the most unbiased source for Rush cuts.

I didn't hear it on Huffpo. I heard it on the radio in an advertisement from a very balanced, I would even say, the most balanced ever, labor group.
