What it actually means is that people in high places, politicians, mountaineers, etc who have speech writers often send almost subliminal messages to their listeners. This is often how we see them as PLUs (People Like Us).
Hence my view that many, particularly in America (we dont really know why America) are very easy to manipulate by politicians of all colours.

I wonder what "social justice" is code for? Or "transforming America?" Seems to me, this "code word" thing might work both ways, and liberals might not be pleases with what we determine their "code words" are. Doesn't sound like a very good way for us to accomplish dialogue.

I will, pimp. Toure' later and on another show admitted his failure in that regard, apologized and said it would NEVER happen again. Like others here I was shocked that he would have used such a slur. I am not shocked, however, that the rightwingers are so appreciative of the Romney remarks asking the President to take his politics back to Chicago. Just where do Romney/Ryan get off on their lies, distortions and misrepresentations? Massachusetts? Utah? Wisconsin? I don't think the Prez and his VP will be doing anything to alienate those good people in those states. Just what was romney trying to say?

And why shouldn't he...Obama is using Chicago style dirty politics to distract, and deflect from his failure as a President....

Fact: 1 out of 4 households now has a person either underemployed, or unemployed....What a success!

Politics everywhere is a tough and tumble endeavor. Pointing out the lies, distortions and misrepresentations of the romney ticket is not that kind of politics. Unless romney says it is? He ain't got anything else and right now not much to lose.

I think the phrase 'code words' is being misinterpreted. It should really include the use of collocates. You have all played that game where you complete a well known phrase or saying.
So if I say, for instance, 'GAS' you might complete it with 'STATION' or 'PUMP' or 'BAG' etc. Now, when we read and particularly when we listen we are pre-guessing the next word or words. So if I say, in a speech '.....gas..' you will preguess one of those words I have listed. You think of 'PUMP' with a secondary guess of 'PRICES'. I say Gas pump prices' and you immediately identify with me because we are 'the same'. Now no one will ever complain that the price of petrol is too low! In my next speech I might simply say, '...now look at gas....' and you complete it as above. But I can honestly say that I didn't talk about the rising cost of petrol, nor that it was the fault of corporate greed, but because 'we are the same' you know.
The same applies to our prejudices to the extent that the pronoun 'THEY' can indicate a racist attitude and no intent whatsover to turn 'THEY' into 'US'.
Politicians' speech writers know this (many politicians are too dumb to ask why) but most of the electorate is oblivious and occasionally, just occasionally might ask themselves, 'Why do I think that?'
The answer is simple and it applies to all parties and all faiths:
I think that because someone has TOLD ME TO THINK THAT!
If you want to fight for freedoms in America fight first for FREE WILL.
