WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama, locked in a fierce re-election bid, is emphasizing his incumbent's role for a third straight day, skipping battleground states to visit victims of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey, a state he's confident of winning. The president's actions have forced his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, to walk a careful line and make tough choices.
The former Massachusetts governor must show respect for the superstorm's casualties all along the Eastern Seaboard. ButRomney can ill afford to waste a minute of campaign time, with the contest virtually deadlocked in several key states and the election six days away.

There's nothing like a natural disaster to test the depth of politicians' preference for small government.
And so Mitt Romney found himself on the hot seat after superstorm Sandy battered the East Coast. Only last year, as Romney hewed to the right while battling for the GOP nomination, he appeared to suggest in a debate that the Federal Emergency Management Agency should be shuttered and its responsibilities left to the states.
"Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that's the right direction," Romney said at a debate last year. "And if you can go even further, and send it back to the private sector, that's even better."
Asked by moderator John King of CNN whether that would include disaster relief, Romney said: "We cannot afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids. It is simply immoral, in my view, for us to continue to rack up larger and larger debts and pass them on to our kids."

Uhhh what else is Romney going to do? Visit the area? He's not officially in authority and he'd seriously be in the way.

this storm will be the savior of Robmoneys presidential seeking carreer.

He will be able to blame the storm for his loss iof this election.

It means he can run again.

If this storm had not happened he would have lost and had no excuse for his loss.

Its the best thing to happen to robmoney.

Guess Obama could not run off to California, Las Vegas or wherever else and play a few rounds of golf. He actually had to work for his paycheck.

Why is Obama worrying so much about the 1% whose homes were wiped out? Unless of course it was 99%ers who owned beach houses on the Jersey Shore

Because Obama, unlike Romney, cares about ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the population of this nation...even the top 1%.

I understand how befuddling the concept of caring about EVERYONE must be for a partisan hack like you to comprehend.

Great, then I am sure you can link up all of those speeches where Obama praises the 1%

Ready? Go bitch

LOL yes, there absolutely is no political thought going into anything obama is doing right now.

this is why I hate obama supporters. they are such fucking rubes.

msnbc is showing "breaking news".... The story, that Romney is anti-FEMA. Wow, where were they with the big breaking news about the 9/11 Benghazi attack, and subsequent attempted coverup and lack of help for those that died. So much for fair & balanced news, expect nothing less from that liberal Obama machine

I'll get right on that...just as soon as you suck a fart out of my ass.

This will be another post the YurTroll uses to once again spew more derision...of course he will ignore the fact I was responding in kind to a derisive post to begin with, but since when has the YurTroll ever treated both sides equally?

After Benghazi he had to appear as if he cared about something other than getting re-elected. Too bad for his True Believers it won't be enough to make up for two weeks of blaming a video...

(A man is still in prison for that, don't forget him even if the people who should care most about Freedom of Speech will.)

It's probably because he's well rested after allowing an Ambassador to die and then going to Las Vegas.
