My Thoughts on Tonight's Election

As for the election, Obama won more decisively than I expected, the Dems picking up a couple of Senate seats was a surprise as well. I thought it would remain as is. House remained Rep. PA was not even close to being in play. Kudos to Dung who was pretty spot on in his predictions.

Stock markets down hard today... but that is not predominantly due to Obama winning, but rather due to what is expected to happen in Congress for the next 6 weeks or so on the fiscal cliff. Bond markets up based on expectations of more and more easing. Dollar falling.

Got a prediction on the fiscal cliff? Think they will compromise?

All conservatives. Obama is a liberal.

While not all conservatives are authoritarians; all highly authoritarian personalities are political conservatives.

Authoritarians are generally socialist.

They have to compromise. My prediction is that it will be a dog fight until the last second, which is going to freak out the market. I think this is the general expectation which is why the stock market is down a couple percent today on average.

My prediction for the final compromise:

Taxes on those over $250k (approx) will increase back to Clinton rates. But more importantly I think Cap Gains taxes are going to go back up.

Estate taxes will be about 35-40% on estates over $5mm (current level) and will be adjusted for inflation each year.

Corp tax rates will be lowered.

Sounds like a reasonable prediction. What do you think Dems will have to compromise on in return?

Obama will not compromise, his is a one party agenda.
One party, two issues, two tactics.

Honestly do not know if they will have to. Estate tax is a slight compromise (though I expect most are really against keeping it at current level). There may be some pet defense projects they allow to go through in exchange. I think given the shitty state of the economy and Obama winning the way he did despite the shitty state of the economy, the Reps are best suited to just bend over and take it on this one.

Personally I say give Obama and the Dems most of what they want in the next year. Let the country see whether or not their ideas work or not. Let the country see what happens when the costs of Obama care start hitting.

You know, you guys should have just had your meltdowns under your original monikers. It would have been less trouble for you and honestly, it's fun for me either way. I hope you didn't put this new outfit on just for us?

Where is my "meltdown," Darla? Sorry, but you won't be getting one from me. I'm admitting I was wrong and looking to the future. Belittle and attack me to your heart's desire; I honestly do not care. I deserve it. My request for civility in this thread had nothing to do with avoiding criticism; obviously, anyone can start a thread to do that. I simply wanted to admit my error and reach out to the other side. Have a good day.

President Obama has claimed a decisive victory. While this isn't the result I like or expected, the President will have my respect and, as far as it is possible, my support in his second term. My hope is that he will have the wisdom required not only to restore our economy, but unite us as a people. In the end, whether we are Republican, Democrat, or Independent, we are all Americans.

I request that both sides would refrain from personal attacks in this thread - I would like to keep it as positive as possible. The bottom line is that I was wrong about tonight...very wrong. It is a humbling experience, and I believe now is the time for conservatives to begin the process of reflecting and soul-searching for the future of our Grand Old Party.

when have you EVER done this in return?

maybe you should go back and look at my past posts.

Its talking to right wing people on the internets all these years that made me realize jsut how dishonest you people are

Never, but I plan to starting today.
Perhaps you should ask yourself the same question.

Actually you behaved very well for quite a while, until you got caught up in election month frenzy.
I was extremely impressed by your "revelation", and believe you have hope as a human being. You just need a little more info about your chosen party.
