In March 2011, state child protection investigators took 14-year-old Marie from her mother, Doris Freyre, claiming Doris' own disabilities made it almost impossible for her to care for Marie, who suffered from seizures and severe cerebral palsy. But a Tampa judge signed an order that Marie be returned to her mother, with in-home nursing care around the clock.

Florida health care administrators refused to pay for it, although in-home care can be demonstrably cheaper than care in an institution. Child welfare workers ignored the order completely.

Two months later, Marie was strapped into an ambulance for a five-hour trip to a Miami Gardens nursing home, as her mother begged futilely to go with her.

Marie died 12 hours after she arrived.

not surprising that the state failed miserably in all things, resulting in the death of a teenage girl, but here's the kicker that pisses me off...

At the end of the hearing, Corvo required child welfare administrators to do better. She wrote an order that Marie be returned to her mother, with additional nursing care through the night.

It was an order the state simply ignored.
and you can bet your ass that the only accountability is going to be money from the taxpayers. not a single individual in the florida state government will ever be held accountable for this murder.

A disgrace, an absolute disgrace!
Murder most foul.

Let doctors take care of healthcare.

Governments can do what they do best, lie cheat and steal.

And here libs say they don't want the gobblement to come between a woman and her healthcare

The solution would have been to say she was raped and that they were taking her to scammed parenthood for an abortion

Hey!
People!
Drug your kids, or we will take em, and drug em!!

These people get stranger!!
Stranger danger!!

And...what does this have to do with the Affordable Healthcare Act?

Maybe the 12 year old didn't pass Florida's dickhead Governor's piss test.

What does this have to do with Obamacare?

Government sticking their noses into health care, that's exactly what OBAMADONTCARE is about.
Our way or the highway!!
So this girl in the OP would've been better off being denied admittance into a for profit facility due to lack of money?

if you didn't read the article, she was better off being cared for by her mother. those 'for profit' companies and the state are the ones that killed her by transporting her against her mothers will and denying her the meds she needed to control her seizures.

What does that have to do with Obamacare?
it's the inevitable result when you give even the slightest power over to government. In this case, the state has the power to not only determine what medical care she needed, but when ordered to do differently by a judge, they simply ignored the judge. Obamacare is not any different, just a small step toward government regulated medical care.
