Libs said this wouldn't happen

There we go again! Quoting FOX News isn't a good idea!

The real reason? Here.

Windber Medical Center made a big announcement Tuesday. The board of trustees said its obstetrician wing will be closing by the end of March.

That means women who are expecting to deliver their babies at Windber Medical Center after April 1 are going to have to find an alternative plan.

The hospital said two of its doctors are leaving and two others have asked to shift the focus of their practice.

"Faced with having to replace four obstetricians, the board considered all of their strategic action and concluded they wanted to focus on the gynecological care further and to not offer obstetrician services," said Barbara Cliff, president and CEO of Windber Medical Center.

Obstetrician services will be provided through March, but those expecting after April 1 will be forced to find care elsewhere.

"Their obstetrician is working very closely with them to transition their care to another provider in another hospital," said Cliff.

The hospital in Johnstown PA is ready to take the overflow from the closing. Johnstown is about 8 or 9 miles away from Windber.

The hospital in Windber averaged 200 deliveries in the last few years. Are you saying they should keep their department open even if they are losing money? How very liberal of you.

Because those who want to profit from it will ignore the needs of the poor and drive up the prices to make more money.

In a pure capitalist market that might be possible. But in this country we have safety nets in place to make sure that even the poorest have access to critical healthcare.

Its those safety nets that the conservatives want to get rid of.So they can drive up the prices as high as they want to.

I haven't seen anyone (except the most crazed lunatics) push for no safety nets. More often I have seen people bemoaning the fact that those with money or insurance have more healthcare options.

They obviously do not have enough young catholics in that area.

From the link:

Hospital officials say the population of women of child-bearing age is dropping and that the number of births the hospital would be called upon to perform isn't enough for it to provide the service in the face of lower reimbursements under the federal Affordable Care Act.

The hospital delivered about 200 babies each year since restarting its obstetrics program in 2005.

It is sad that you have such a limited understanding of basic economics.

How do you explain the poors ability to afford

iPads
Computers
Televisions
Cable
Air conditioning
Food

All of these are for profit interests yet the poor can afford them.

Want to try again?

My Lord, you're a bitter old man.

Many poor have to forsake all of those in exchange for some meager health care.
