Explaining women in combat arms

It may surprise you guys but there are some men who see women as equal and have self control enough to be able to serve with them. I know a lot of guys on here are surprised by men having these characteristics, but thank the goddess they actually outnumber all you Neanderthals

Howey was in the military for many years also, and his opinions carry some weight with me.

I've read SR's comments on this and other threads over the past few years. Here he's providing a Catch-22 couched in oh-so-reasonable language but I don't buy it wholesale because of the source. SR wrote the following a few years ago. I thought he was being sarcastic but apparently not. He characterized his fellow soldiers as nothing more than camp followers. Do you guys understand how piggish this sounds to women?

"I know that during my tour we had very attractive female Marines that went on patrols with us, slept naked with us out in the field during offensive operations and performed sexual favors for all of us to keep us in a good mood... helped ferry ammunition to us during firefights, cooked our meals, carried out our wounded, sometimes they would sun tan topless and invite us to hold "who has the best tits" contests.

Just imagine the parties we'll have in combat now that the homosexuals problem of coming out of the closet has been solved!!!"

How about a comparison of foreign soldier rape vs. fellow soldier rape?

American soldiers also rape foreign men, women and children in addition to their female cohorts. Why doesn't this get any press?

And fighting the enemy at close quarters doesn't necessarily mean a rape will follow.

I would live to talk to those women! The women I have encountered who are military do not strike me as the types who would "try to keep men happy". There may be one in a thousand, but I seriously question his story. I will have to ask my many friends and relatives who gave served if they have witnessed this behavior! I will also ask my niece if she plans to be the "happy ending girl"

I wonder if BAC's daughter has witnessed stuff like this?

No, I disagree that this argument can be legitimately made. Firstly, I never ever qualify or quantify rape. It's impossible to do so. No one can say, well this person's rape was worse than that person's rape, because this person was beaten worse, or whatever. No one can ever know what happened, how it felt, and what damage is caused, other than the person who experienced their own rape. I would never tell another woman, well your rape really wasnt' that bad because it happened with someone you know and he didn't try and kill you. I just wouldn't do that. It holds no water with me.

As far as men being more traumatized, that is wrong. You'd be saying that women have safe places to talk about their rapes, that they are never judged for their rapes, that they are always believed about their rapes, that they are never tagged as damaged good for their rapes...none of those things are true. Not one of those things is true.

So, no.

More women being around, becoming more accustomed to being in the situation, and less fear all point to reducing the number of rapes by their fellow soldiers.

I stand corrected in the way I said that. It is not more traumatizing. I simply think the experience is very different for men, without saying anything is easier for the women.

I agree. Rapists thrive in a culture that rewards the rapist, and punishes the victim. Rape is definitely in my opinion a tool used to control women. So this argument would be very friendly to rapists. It's classic rape culture.

WOmen must be prevented from moving about freely to protect them from rapists.

Never would an enforcer of rape culture ask, what can we do to change the culture that facilitates these rapes? Or, how about instead of telling women they have to hide, not go out after dark, wear modest clothing, only leave the house with a man, not enter the military, etc, all to prevent rape, we tell men, hey, don't rape. And we enforce that by punishing the rapist not the victim. By making being a rapist shameful, rather than shaming the victim.

Rapists watch this very closely. They know what kind of rapes don't get prosecuted, and what kind of rapes are blamed on women. That's why rape is epidemic in the military IMO.

I would call bullshit on the statement. I am not buying that anyone woman with enough drive and determination to complete USMC Basic Training would then subject themselves to this sort of degrading behavior. There might be some rare exception, but I bet she owned their paychecks in short order. But becoming a Marine so she could "...performed sexual favors for all of us to keep us in a good mood..."? No. Bullshit.

Yep, wear a burka, because it is all your fault we can't controll our impulses! Women must learn to do so, but we are also responsible for men's actions! Praise Allah! ;)
